The CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF PURCHASING & SUPPLY (CIPS) is an international organisation representing the purchasing and supply chain management profession by promoting and developing high standards of professional skill, ability and integrity among all those engaged in purchasing and supply chain management. CIPS assists individuals, organisations and the profession as a whole.
Purchasing & Supply Chain Management professionals strive to become full Members of CIPS which allows them to use the designatory letters MCIPS after their name, demonstrating their professional accomplishment.
CIPS have declared that the Level 4 Supply Chain Management NVQ will provide a route to MCIPS provided that the Learner:
- completes at least 3 optional units in the group from Unit M5 to M19
- has at least 3 years experience in a position of responsibility in purchasing and supply management

Q1. What is MCIPS?
The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply is a Professional Institute which represents the Purchasing and Supply Chain Management profession. It offers seven different types of membership to provide a structure that allows entry at an appropriate level, reflecting academic standards, vocational skills, experience and contribution to the profession. MCIPS are the designatory letters for Full Member. Full Members are recognised internationally for their professional accomplishment.
Q2. What are the CIPS criteria for MCIPS status?
Many Members of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply achieve MCIPS by completing the CIPS Graduate Diploma, which involves passing Examinations at CIPS Levels 4, 5 and 6. However, alternative routes include the successful completion of a L4 Supply Chain Management NVQ
CIPS have declared that the Level 4 Supply Chain Management NVQ will provide a route to MCIPS provided that the candidate:

When submitting your Upgrade application to CIPS Membership Department you MUST include a Copy of EDEXCEL L4 Supply Chain Management NVQ Certificate AND the Unit Certificate.
